Barbara Beacham is the kind host of Monday’s Finish the Story. Every week a photo and the first sentence of the story is shared and the challenge is to finish the story in 100 – 150 words. Thanks Barbara for this week’s photo and the challenge.
Finish the story begins with: “Are you laughing at me? “ Yes, they are.
I held a photo frame in my hands.
My best friend, Rose, and I are 65+. When we started hitting the loneliness road we decided to steer our lives a little…towards happiness. Rose enrolled for a photography class. I had always loved painting so I enrolled myself for an art class.
She came with a gift on my 70th birthday – kimonos – two for both of us.
We smiled gleefully in our kimonos and bright red lipstick. The timer was set… a flash and a click…captured us perfectly.
The picture had collected dust so I started cleaning it. It looked cloudy. So with a duster in my hand and my glasses on I took a closer look. Silence.
“Wahat! No wonder they looked the same size. They are yellow orchids not us in yellow kimonos.” I started laughing. Something to remember by…of course! not only the photo but my foolishness too.
delightful! It gave me quite a chuckle too!

That is a funny story and so well told! I apologize for not responding sooner. This is a wonderful tale and made me think of my best friend. We are not the spring chickens we used to be! I hope that you return tomorrow, at least to check out the photo and opening line, as you might want to contribute again! Be well and thank you Norma! Be well… ^..^

Thanks for reading and commenting, Barbara. I’m glad to know that the story stirred some past emotions of your best friend. I lost touch with my best friend in school when she had to relocate to a new city. Those days mobiles were very expensive and we didn’t have numbers to exchange…we wrote letters for some years and then…FULL STOP. Please don’t apologize for the late response. 🙂 I haven’t checked the challenge but I’ll surely do. Thanks for hosting the challenge and your kind response to my story. It encourages me to write and be more participative. 🙂
