Blogger Recognition Award

Thank you so much Millie for nominating me for the ‘Blogger Recognition Award’. People who have been reading my posts might already know Millie but for the others who have joined in you’ll need to check her blog to know her. Her blog is a wonderful place where she writes flash fictions and historical posts.

I would really be happy if you’d except the award but I would also understand if you decide to decline the award. Congrats, to all the nominees. I would really be interested to here about how you got started with your blogging. 🙂

So, here’s a brief story of how I started blogging.

When writing struck me I was scribbling on notebooks. Two years had moved on and the term ‘blog’ settled in my mind. I asked a person, from younger generation, who could have known about it – my sister. She gave me a brief idea about blogging. I asked her if I can blog because I thought you had to be a celebrity to blog. She smiled and said, “no, anyone can blog, even you can.” So, I asked her to help me with my account. She opened a WordPress account for me.

That was the day… and, ever since I’ve enjoyed every bit of blogging.

Two piece of advice:

Just write. Don’t worry about the stats, just enjoy and write like a mad writer. Some post attract huge traffic, some don’t. Don’t worry about – the whys and hows – it will not be fruitful. What matters is – if you enjoyed writing it or not.

Step out and away from your comfort zone. Not always but once in a while. Do something that you have not done before in your blog. This not only helps the creativity flowing in you but also redefines your blogging personality (that is, if you only want to do something new, if not then stick with whatever you are comfortable with).

  2. Some good advice there, Norma. I agree it’s important to enjoy what you write, and doing something different now and then is important, too. It’s lucky your sister knew about blogging and helped you to set things up. Sisters are useful to have! 🙂

      • My sister, who is two years younger than me, had a horrible habit of pinching me when we were young. We had to share a bed at one time, until we moved to a bigger house, and she used to pinch me just to be annoying. I’d get into trouble if I pinched her back, because I was older! Thank goodness she grew out of that! 🙂

      • Oh, that’s mean. I too am the older one but I did my share of shouting at her, when I was getting adjusted to her being all around me and picking and touching my things. Often I heard two things: your the elder one and oh, she is so cute.

      • My little sister was very cute, too, and got away with murder because of it. But she soon grew out of her pinching phase, thank goodness. We’ve always been great friends since.

      • Sure, they are better than brothers. When my mom was expecting I silently prayed for a little sister and the day she was born I was so happy and relieved. I carried her with great care back home for some time. But in the growing years we behaved like normal kids – slapping, scratching, biting and even wrestling (as she was a big fan of WWE at one time as a child). Now we both have a calm demeanor. Grown ups! 😀

      • Well, Linda and I are more than grown ups now. We’re both grandma’s and enjoying a life of retirement. I have my writing and Nick has the garden, and we have lots of little holidays. They’re very useful, because I can do posts about them – which i enjoy doing. It makes a change from FF. I don’t want my blog to be just flash fiction stories, you see. I’m glad you and your sister are great friends now. I have a brother, too. I get on really well with him as well. 😀

      • I too like the idea of not restricting the blog posts to just one kind of subject. It’s makes both – the reader and the writer – happy. However, I’ve seen many blogs keeping to just one kind of posts or strictly doing the photo posts. I think, whatever makes one happy, is the answer. 🙂 And over a period of time your blog develops a personality too (although, this is my crazy idea :)) that people start liking it.

      • I think you’re so right about blogs developing a personality. It probably just happens as bloggers relax into their own writing style and what they really like to blog about. 🙂

      • I started my blog after having written and self-published a book. It was initially meant to be a way of introducing it to potential readers, but it immediately became something else, as you may have noticed 🙂 . I didn’t expect to enjoy blogging; in fact, I was rather reluctant in the beginning. But there’s something about the diversity you can find here that makes it slightly addictive. Now it’s mainly an interesting pastime, one that offers the possibility of change whenever you feel you need it.
        As for advice… well, I think that all that matters is to find some sort of pleasure or sense of accomplishment in this. I suppose each and every person has a more or less clear idea in mind when starting blogging – one that might change afterwards 🙂 . So why not try and see if you can make it happen, right?
        But above all, it’s a really good opportunity to practice keeping an open mind 🙂

      • Thanks for sharing this with me Ana.:) I too have been pondering over writing a book – what, I’ve no idea. I love your photos that is how I crept into your blogging world and then I started reading “Parallel Lives”; I enjoyed that too. I don’t know about writing a book and then turning to blogging (I say this as I have met some bloggers who started blogging after writing a book not as sales promotion but just being able to interact with other readers) as blogging in itself, I feel, is very addictive. I love it as you meet people from different places and hear their stories. 🙂
