A Myna

This is a story for Friday Fictioneers, which is hosted by Rochelle. Every week you are challenged to write a 100 word story based on a photo.

Thanks to Douglas M. MacIlroy for this week’s photo and also to Rochelle for hosting the challenge.

Thanks to all the readers for their time, too.

Uncle Martin was my favourite. One day, his truck stopped outside our house.

I ran out. He picked me up. Put me on his shoulder and we zoomed into the house.

Inside the house — he… getting out candies from his pocket; I… grabbing them reflexively. Engrossed as I was, unwrapping and chomping them, I noticed uncle’s hands in front of me.

“A gift for you,” he said.

My eyes grew with joy. I ripped the shiny wrapper with my sticky fingers.

Inside was a soft, fluffy bird.

“A mynah!” he said.

It chirped and flapped on pressing the switch button.
