“To me, photography is an art of observation. It’s about finding something interesting in an ordinary place…I’ve found it has little to do with the things you see and everything to do with the way you see them.” Elliott Erwitt
Rice on my plate is ordinary but this rice field looked pretty (extra)ordinary to me specially when it basked under the glorious sun and swayed with the breeze creating beautiful waves of different shades of greens. A thrilled me, wanted to capture this entire field in action – it was extraordinary – but a closer view showed a little more than the field. An (extra)ordinary someone was taking a peak at me – a grasshopper.
A leaf from my childhood memory took me to a time when I was 7 or 8. My dad caught a grasshopper from our garden to show it to me. I was astounded by its vibrant green colour and grassy looks. I was immediately in awe of this ordinary creature but I was afraid to touch it. It was soon released, after I had taken a good look at it.
My (extra)ordinary friend was not an easy capture this time as it was camouflaging itself in the green field. But with a little zoom there was no running, and… it was captured.
Beautiful photo, Norma. As you say, the little chap is so well camouflaged. Only the eye and antennae (which aren’t obvious unless you look closely) make him different to the grey leaves (?) on the rice plant. A grasshopper’s jump is amazing, too. 🙂

Thanks Millie. I thought I had lost it. Although I’m not an acrobatic person but I think I had used certain acrobatic skills to click this photo. The sun was shining from the opposite direction and was about to set (which was still ok). The problem was I was standing on a very narrow mud path which was not even visible. I would have been ok to take a fall but dreaded the creatures of varying sizes hidden in them. The good thing was I was wearing running shoes.:)

I’m very impressed with your photography skills. I love the way the grasshopper is so well camouflaged against the grass. I’m glad no bigger creatures stalked you. 🙂
